Jubei is drum & bass producer and DJ Paul Ager, a UK artist based in London. He grew up listening to techno and became interested in drum & bass after hearing Roni Size and Bryan Gee DJ at Lakota in Bristol. Ager has said that he works mainly digitally, using Cubase on a PC and relying heavily on samples. His production is stripped back, and his DJ sets are technically focused.
Jubei signed exclusively to Metalheadz in 2010, and the label released nine of his tracks that year. His relationship with the label began with the EP Nothing Ventured Nothing Gained. Metalheadz also released his album To Have & Have Not, featuring collaborations with Goldie, dBridge and Marcus Intalex; the album came out in 2013. Jubei also released the EP “True Form” on Metalheadz. He helped engineer Goldie’s orchestral piece “Sine Tempus” for the BBC Proms. He launched Carbon Music in 2021, with the dBridge collaboration “Show Me” among its early releases.
