Drum & bass releases of the week: Macky Gee & B-Line, Friction, Mr Traumatik and more

Macky Gee & B-Line, Friction, Mr Traumatik and Simula lead a busy week for drum & bass. Most of this week’s big drum & bass releases came out on Friday 23 October, with Zero T arriving a day early on Hospital and Dawn Wall and dBridge out on Wednesday. Here are 14 releases worth hearing, from big-label singles to neurofunk and a 160 BPM cut from dBridge. Macky Gee & B-Line – DRACULA Macky Gee teams up with B-Line on his own Macky Gee Music. It’s a single track, just over three minutes of drum & bass. Friction – Me & You The seventh single from his forthcoming album SYNERGY is out on Elevate Records. Friction builds it around the vocal from Cassie’s “Me & U”, a sample he managed to clear, and told George FM the version he finally delivered was V115. Mr Traumatik, Tanz & MyNamesError – Bk in the day Mr Traumatik links up with Tanz and MyNamesError on Multidimensional Music, with SH3M and Wilbaforce also credited on the track. Simula & Javeon – Smokescreen Simula returns to Critical Music with something smoother than his usual heavier sound: a rolling vocal track on a two-step break and very low subs. Javeon’s vocal leads, with eerie organ touches underneath. Flava D & Stush – Energy (S.P.Y Remix) UKF’s remix package for “Energy” takes Flava D and Stush’s track two ways. PEEKABOO keeps it at 140, while S.P.Y turns it into drum & bass. Grafix – Blur Another single on his own Grafix Music, following “Reflection of U” in September. Grafix wrote it with Alex Chase and Ellen Chase. Zero T & Aaliyah Esprit – When My Love Out on Thursday, Zero T’s return to Hospital Records reunites him with Aaliyah Esprit, a pairing already heard on The North Quarter, CIA and Soulvent. It’s the first single from his four-track Dialects EP, due on 19 November and his first standalone project for the label. Magnetude, Task Horizon & Gydra – EC100 – Sampler II Evolution Chamber’s run of samplers for its 100th release continues. Magnetude and Task Horizon bring tabla and broad bass to “Prayer” with Yush!, and Gydra take “Ugly Boy” on their own. Alcemist – GOOD VIBES A new single from Alcemist on Temperature Productions, three and a half minutes long. Drumsound & Bassline Smith – Time’s Up The duo are back on their own Technique Recordings with vocalist Jasmine Knight. The single also comes with a dub version, without the vocal. Benny L – Revenge Benny L’s second single of the year on Audioporn, after “Crocodiles” in February. Burr Oak & Audio – Brainstorm Burr Oak team up with Audio for their latest neurofunk single on Eatbrain. Dawn Wall – Moscow Drive A liquid single from Dawn Wall, out on Wednesday on Drum&BassArena. dBridge – Curiosity Clicks The title track from dBridge’s first original EP for FABRICLIVE is out now, with the four-track EP following on 19 November. dBridge says the music comes from a wider collection he has written at 160 BPM, going back to the days when jungle and drum & bass ran at a range of tempos.
