Now you must of known this one was gonna get onto vinyl one way or another...
SYNKRO has been one of my favourite electronic artists for a while now. Ever since hearing his track "Departure" a few years ago I've followed everything he's done. The emotion he manages to capture in his music is simply astounding and something that few producers can do.
My first contact with Synkro was when he was asked to remix one of my tracks "Echoes" a couple of years ago. I still remember how excited I was sending off the stems for "Echoes" as well as another track of mine, "Saving Grace".
When the remix came back I was blown away. The intricate percussion whilst so varied manages to stay cohesive, and the new 80's-ish background synth runs just make the tune. I've heard that a 130bpm remix of Saving Grace was started however this was never completed.
After getting Synkro onboard for the album I started putting together a track. I knew I wanted to do something non-dnb was working around the 130bpm mark. I jumped on the train a few weeks later and headed up to Manchester for a weekend in the studio.
We broke the track down and started to rebuild the percussion using a number of the original sounds. A bunch of new elements were added and after a couple of stints the track was done.
I had hit a bit of a slow patch writing the LP and this track proved to be a real turning point. I had been using Logic for a couple of years but after using Ableton for this session with Synkro, I knew I had to change. It was a bit of a ballsy move to switch DAWs mid album but it provided the shake up I needed. I got back to London and within a couple of months had written a bunch of tracks and more or less had the album completed.
