Director's Cut was founded by Ash-A-Tack, a drum and bass DJ, together with DFunk, who owns Bassdrive. The label works across jungle and drum-and-bass, and its founding purpose was to issue music while offering emerging artists a platform for releases. Ash-A-Tack subsequently carried the project forward alone. In 2011, he partnered with Damage on Director's Cut. Artists whose music has appeared on the label include Command Strange, Soul Connection and Genotype. Command Strange’s single Roxstar EP was issued by Director's Cut in 2012. Soul Connection’s single Break It Down followed in 2016.
