Emotif is based in London and began in 1995, starting out with experimental drum and bass before moving towards more tech-oriented sounds. The label and DJ Trace helped bring techstep into view through “Mutant Revisited” and the album Techsteppin. Emotif released 60 singles and six albums, with artists including Double O and DJ Trace among its roster.
DJ Trace and Skyscraper’s “Mutant Revisited / Liberty 1” appeared in 1996, while Double O’s “Sublime / Woman” followed in 2006. The 1998 album Infinite Methods Of Drum & Bass featured B.L.I.M. and Clinical And System Critical. Emotif also partly ran weekly Movement nights at Bar Rhumba and monthly dates at Mass in Brixton, and launched Double Zero for dancefloor-focused releases, planned as ten 10-inch records. Its December 2014 F The B EP brought together tracks by Ray Keith, Aphrodite, D-Region & Code, and DJ Andy with Acuna. The label also issued Loggi’s jungle releases “Hard To Carry On Jungle EP” and “Back To The Jungle.”
