Dr Meaker is a Bristol-based drum-and-bass live act led by producer and keyboardist Clive Meaker, with vocalist Celestine, drummer Tom Wheeler, vocalists Tenisha Edwards and Laurent John, saxophonist Ben Wood, and trumpeter Simon Alexander among its members. The project began in 2004 as a soundsystem built around Meaker, who started by producing the music before forming a live band through university friends, friends of friends and local Bristol connections. Its live format combines electronic production and samples with instruments and vocals, drawing on electronic and traditional instrumentation. Meaker has described the group’s approach as soulful and gritty. Its first studio album, A Lesson From The Speaker, arrived in 2008.

Dr Meaker’s single “Right Back” features Sian Evans, vocalist with Kosheen, and was released through V Recordings; the track became a UK Top 40 dance hit. The act has also put out “Music in the Night”, “Fighter” and “Don’t Think It’s Love”. Later releases have appeared on Born On Road and Souped Up. Meaker has said that collaborating lets other artists bring their own sounds to the process and helps keep it from becoming stagnant. The act has also released music on Circus Records.

The album Dirt & Soul features collaborations with Sian Evans, Sharlene Hector and Yolanda Brown. Distorted Sun was released in 2024 on Meaker’s label, Flightcase Recordings, and includes “Distant City”, a collaboration with Terri Walker.

HumaNature is the artist name of Portuguese producer André Soares, who began producing music at 18, influenced by liquid drum and bass. His family moved to the United States when he was two, and he relocated to Porto in 2014 to pursue a career in drum and bass. Based in Portugal, he has released music through Fokuz Recordings, Liquicity Records and RAM Records. His early releases appeared on Plush Recordings, Soul Deep Recordings and Stepping Forward Records. In 2016, his Bring It Back EP came out on Fokuz Recordings, alongside the EP Human Traffic. An earlier release was the 2011 single Dreamscapes EP on Dooh! Records.

HumaNature joined Liquicity’s artist roster in 2017. His later work for the label includes Querencia, a collaboration with Leniz. He also collaborated with Edlan on Awakened, released on Integral Records, and with Silence Groove and Skeletone on a release for Fokuz Recordings. His 2018 EP Soul Train. Since I’ve Known You is also an EP by HumaNature.

In 2022, HumaNature released the EP The Lost River. That year’s singles included Seeing Is Believing, made with Malaky and Pixel for Exiled Recordings, and Correct The Vibe (Winslow Remix), a collaboration with Alpha Rhythm and MC ASTRO for Beats In Mind. In 2024, he released Between Old and New (HumaNature Remix), featuring Hiraeth, on Galacy Records. That year also brought the Still in Love Remix EP, made with Scatterbrain. His 2025 single Circles appeared on FLOODLIGHT WW.

Dunk is the solo project of João Garcia Neto, a drum & bass producer from São Paulo, Brazil. His stripped-back, bass-heavy rollers have earned him the tag “the master of the minimal sound”, and the name itself is a basketball reference: he loves the moment a commentator shouts “dunk!” as the ball goes through the hoop.

Before going solo he spent years in Jam Thieves with his brother Guilherme. The brothers, from the north side of São Paulo, started out as DJs in a four-deck project called Decks Groove before switching to production in 2007; hip-hop fans first, they got into drum & bass around 1998 through DJ Hype, Pascal and Zinc's True Playaz crew. Jam Thieves' minimal, bassline-led “thief's music” found homes on labels such as Proximity, V Recordings, Chronic, Serial Killaz and Playaz.

In 2020 he started the Dunk project to focus on his own minimalist side. His debut album, The Music Is My Life, arrived on Dispatch Recordings in September 2021, mastered by Teebee at Black Science Labs. A year later he returned to Dispatch with The Art of Minimal, a twelve-track set including “Made In Brazil” and “Diamond Head” that he says was finished in two months, alongside five other releases.

The pace has not let up since. Dunk has released on Sofa Sound, Souped Up, Dubplate Dread, Liondub International, Grid, Critical and Playaz, and on DJ Marky's Innerground Records, from “Fake Love” on the Innerground 100 compilation to Moon Rocks / Nightcrawler in 2023 and Nightmare in 2025. He values Marky's feedback as a measure of how his music is landing, traces his minimal style to rap, hip-hop and techno, and has also started a separate techno project, Minimalyst. He left his job to live from music and keeps office hours in the studio.

In October 2026 he made his Metalheadz debut with Bam Bam / Mirror Dance (METHXX046) in the label's METHXX series, pairing the deep, hypnotic groove of “Mirror Dance” with the raw sub-bass of “Bam Bam”.

At 18, Lawrence Bachell began making drum and bass after learning guitar and violin and studying music technology. Known as Vektah, Bachell is a Bournemouth-based producer and DJ whose roots are also described as South East London and the South West of England. The early single “Request” appeared on Soulvent Records’ Tonics: Batch 1, and the 2021 Culture Shift was an EP. Bachell said the connection with Soulvent began after meeting label manager Joe Goss at a club.

Vektah has described his approach as combining melodic elements with heavy basslines, while enjoying the chance to explore different styles of drum and bass. “Request” was a favourite of his; Eats Everything played it on BBC Radio 1. His music has also appeared on Sofa Sound, Hospital Records, Spearhead Records, Flexout Audio and Symmetry Recordings. A collaboration with SKG was Vektah’s first producer collaboration at the time of an interview. He also discussed a planned track with Submotive and work in progress with Levela.

His collaborations include work with LSB on “Penny Drop” and “Gin Pan Alley”, and with Visionobi on “Modus Operandi”, released through Soulvent Records. Singer-songwriter Ruth Royall joined Vektah on “What I Want”; another collaboration, “What We Got”, features Riya. In 2025, Vektah released the single “Can I Get Your Attention / The Love We Share” on Symmetry Recordings. Vektah also collaborated with JODIAN NATTY on “Light Up Your World”.

The four-track Stay Real EP came out on Symmetry Recordings in 2026. Vektah played at Planet Wax in January, Phonox in March and Islington Arts Club in May. June brought a set at Onyx (E1), followed by appearances at XOYO in July and The Fox and Firkin in September. Vektah’s first event was in 2022, and London is the region where he has played most often.
