Violet Nights Recordings is a London label for drum and bass, mostly liquid, and began operating in 2021 as a vinyl imprint centered on atmospheric sounds. Neil Johnston, known as DJ Flash, and Clinton Harcup, known as DJ Chippie, own the label. Its first release paired Blame’s “Understanding & Knowing” with “In My Soul”; both tracks had originated as DJ dubplates in 1996, and the record came out on March 5, 2021. The label’s release policy excludes B-sides, with two tracks planned for each record.
Blame, Chippie, Seba and Greekboy have released music on the label. In 2021, Blame, Chippie and Seba released “Big Grey Wolf / Liquid Electricity” through Violet Nights Recordings. Clinton Harcup’s first release for the label was “Big Grey Wolf.” Greekboy and MSDOS followed with “Out of Body / Lazerstorm” in 2023. Its musical approach draws on funk and soul, with atmospheric pads, vocals, and cosmic or spiritual themes.
