Charlie Bierman, known professionally as Break, is a Bristol-based producer and DJ whose primary work sits in drum and bass and jungle. He founded and runs Symmetry Recordings (launched in 2006) and released his first records in 2003. Break’s solo albums include Symmetry (2008), Resistance (2010), Simpler Times (2015), Another Way (2018) and Digital World (2023).

Break has released singles and albums on his own Symmetry imprint and on established scene labels including Commercial Suicide, Metalheadz, Soul:r, Subtitles, Shogun Audio and Exit. He is credited as producer and songwriter on his releases and on remixes, with remix work that includes a credited remix for Bloc Party.

Public biographical facts emphasise his dual role: studio producer and club DJ. As a credited producer/songwriter, Break handles composition and production on his records; his catalogue contains full-length albums and single/EP releases across multiple labels. As label owner at Symmetry, he has overseen releases from his own catalogue while operating the label since 2006.

Specific, verifiable descriptions of Break’s sound come primarily from his recorded output and label placements. His albums and singles span the range of drum and bass and adjacent bass music — from album-length, arrangement-focused tracks to single-sided club cuts released on labels known for both liquid and harder-edged material. Releases on Metalheadz and Commercial Suicide place parts of his discography alongside techno-leaning and techstep-influenced strands of DnB; Symmetry releases show his production across full-album structure and single-driven formats.

Concrete career markers: first records released in 2003; Symmetry launched in 2006; five named solo albums released in 2008, 2010, 2015, 2018 and 2023; releases on Commercial Suicide, Metalheadz, Soul:r, Subtitles, Shogun Audio and Exit; credited production/songwriting and remix work for artists including Bloc Party. These facts form the backbone of his recorded and label-based contribution to the scene.

Where public detail is limited — for example, precise studio techniques or a full list of collaborators beyond the remix credit — the verifiable record remains his discography, label activity and production credits. Break’s most recent full-length listed here is Digital World (2023), and his role as Symmetry’s founder/owner and as a credited producer/songwriter on his releases and remixes is consistently documented.
