Producer, DJ
It is rare for a married couple to be hiding behind producers’ names—especially in drum and bass. One such example is the Seattle-based union of musician Leigh Caplan, whose Quadrant project was once a trio and, over the course of 10 years, made its mark on such renowned labels as Commercial Suicide, Dispatch, C.I.A., Renegade Hardware, Metalheadz, Fokuz and Citrus, and his wife Karen Caplan, who performs under the alias Iris.
On 16 October, their debut album, bearing the enigmatic title 206, will be released on Klute’s Commercial Suicide label. The couple recorded it together with their close friend Kyle Hopkins (Kid Hops), a radio host and DJ who was one of the first people to introduce Seattle to drum and bass.
The album is highly thoughtful, deep and technical, and completely infused with the atmosphere of overcast Seattle, to which it is dedicated. According to its authors, the atmosphere will be felt most strongly by residents of places where the sun is an infrequent visitor and the climate can be gloomy and unpredictable. The United Kingdom—the birthplace of drum and bass—which is represented on the album by the lyrical vocals of Collette Warren, can certainly be counted among them, as can our own Saint Petersburg, where we regularly and gladly share similar musical moods with you at parties
You can already listen to excerpts from all the album’s tracks via the link below. The release is available for pre-order and will be issued both digitally and as two vinyl records in a full-colour sleeve. A multiformat sampler for the album was recently released and is available for purchase, for example, on Google Play and iTunes.
