1015 Folsom is a music and nightlife venue in San Francisco’s SoMa neighbourhood, where it has hosted events. Ira Sandler took charge of the club at 1015 Folsom Street in 1986, when it operated as Das Klub; the 1015 Folsom name followed in 1989. The Main Room has standing capacity for 600 people. Early events included house parties, Sunday hip-hop nights, Martini, Colossus and Boogie Buffet.
Friday’s Nikita and Sunday’s Spundae were recurring nights during the 1990s, with performers such as John Digweed, Paul Oakenfold and Paul van Dyk. The programme has included house, hip-hop, trance and breaks. REAL BAD has staged events there since 1999, directing proceeds to nonprofit work. By June 2012, PURA Saturdays appeared among the recurring events. In 2007, the Beats for Peace benefit brought local collectives into five rooms, with music spanning trance, house, breaks, downtempo and eclectic sounds.
In 2007, general manager Peter Glikshtern shifted programming toward live rock, with The Donnas as the first live act under the new direction. The 2019 series marking the venue’s 30th anniversary featured Dixon and Doc Martin. In 2002, 1015 Folsom received the Best Club/Club Night award at the inaugural DanceStar USA Awards. The venue also appeared in Between the Beats, a documentary about San Francisco rave culture in the 1990s.
