Bodytonic began in Dublin in 2000 as a DIY party group, formed by Trev O’Shea to create opportunities to DJ. He later partnered with John Mahon. Early events included a Derrick Carter show at the Redbox and a beach party at Redrock Howth, alongside a weekly Friday house night at Wax. The promoter’s work has included music events, festivals, venues and food-and-drink events in Ireland.
POGO started at POD in 2004, the year Bodytonic also began hosting an arena at Electric Picnic. The Saturday night combined live acts with eclectic DJ sets across three rooms at the PoD/Crawdaddy complex. In 2006, Bodytonic took over Brannigan’s on Richmond Street and made it the Bernard Shaw. Two years later, it transformed the former Traffic venue on Middle Abbey Street into the Twisted Pepper, which closed in 2015.
Bodytonic’s club nights covered soul, funk, drum and bass and other styles, with performers including Theo Parrish, Laurent Garnier, Mr Scruff and DJ Format. Events have taken place at The Racket Space and Wigwam in Dublin. Its operations have also extended beyond Ireland, reaching European locations as well as New York and Africa.
The Beatyard festival launched in 2010. Bodytonic’s Scribble label issued Kormac’s debut EP, “Scratch Marchin’,” in 2007; its Bodytonic Music label followed in 2013, releasing music by White Collar Boy and Somadrone. In 2016, the company operated five pubs and worked with Rascal’s Brewing in Rathcoole to produce Brewtonic beers.
