Bootshaus is a club for electronic music at Mülheimer Hafen in Cologne’s Deutz district. It grew out of the Cologne club Warehouse and began operating at Deutzer Werft in 2004. Ulrich Rauschenberger and Sascha Weber shaped its early musical direction through the Loonyland party series, with Rauschenberger handling bookings. Fabian Thylmann has owned Bootshaus since 2012.
The programme spans techno, electro house, trap and dubstep, alongside mainstream club sounds and underground styles. Artists who have played there include Netsky, Yellow Claw, Charlotte de Witte and Chase & Status. Bootshaus has developed its own event series and talent while also hosting events run by outside promoters. Its events have been held at Turbinenhalle and KD Anleger 1 in North Rhine-Westphalia, and at Melkweg in Amsterdam.
The venue has four areas, an outdoor space and a lounge, with capacity for up to 2,200 guests. Its Mainfloor uses an L-Acoustics sound system; BLCKBX centres on bass music, while Dreherai has a techno focus. Blacklist launched in 2015, following the earlier Wobble series. Dave Replay became a resident after first playing at Bootshaus around 2009 and also held a Loonyland residency. Brandon is among the club’s other residents.
