Critical Sound

Critical Sound is the London club-night and events arm of Critical Music, running since 2010. The associated label was established by Kasra Mowlavi in North London in 2002. Critical Sound has held a residency at fabric, where it had staged about 20 shows by 2017, and presented events at Printworks, including sold-out shows. Its events have also taken place at M.O.T in London, Lakota in Bristol and Six Trees Bar And Kitchen in Manchester, as well as at E1 and The Glove That Fits in London. The series’ London events feature drum and bass artists, including Kasra, Enei, Jakes and Waeys.

Beyond club venues, Critical Sound has performed at Sonar in Barcelona and hosted Boomtown’s main stage. Kasra recalled appearing at Boomtown under the name Critical Sound System alongside Foreign Concept and Enei. In March 2022, the series held a sold-out event at Printworks, attended by 6,000 people. Its 2026 event at Corsica Studios used both rooms for drum-and-bass line-ups featuring Kasra, Enei, Calyx and QZB.
