CROP RADIO began operating in Manchester in March 2024 as an independent radio and community platform connected to the city’s underground music scene. Founder Connor Cooper established it to give greater visibility to Manchester’s creative work and link local artists with broader audiences; DJ Tommy Cross was also a co-founder. Its broadcasts and in-person activity connect digital and physical spaces, supporting artists and creative communities across Manchester and the wider North West. Programming draws on underground electronic music from the region and beyond, and recorded shows are archived on SoundCloud and YouTube.
The promoter has held events at Yes and Stage and Radio, and hosted a takeover at the Star and Garter during The Warehouse Project’s 2024 Repercussion day festival. Event performers have included Bryan Gee, Danny Rankin, DJ POLLY and Doc Scott. In July 2024, CROP RADIO announced its first roster of 100 residents, with programming focused on underground electronic music from the North West and elsewhere; named residents included Fliss Mayo and Gracie T.
In February 2025, CROP RADIO launched CROP BY NIGHT at Stage and Radio, a club-night venture featuring local DJs and promoters. It also introduced CROP Magazine, covering emerging artists, venues and collectives alongside dance-music history. The magazine’s launch took place at Honey Street Studio in Manchester in April 2025, with performances and DJ sets by contributors and community members. In March 2026, CROP RADIO co-curated an International Women’s Day event in Manchester with Angels and Cool N’Fun + Nice.
