Culture Box

Culture Box opened in Copenhagen in January 2005, established by Loke Busch and Kenneth Christiansen as a venue for electronic music. Its programme features underground artists from Denmark and other countries, alongside events beyond music. The venue is at Kronprinsessegade 54 in Copenhagen K. Workshops have addressed DJing, VJing, music production and safer-space practices. The Danish Arts Foundation recognized Culture Box as a network and genre venue, with backing from Copenhagen Municipality.

Tim Andresen has played at the venue as a resident since its opening, contributed to its music policy and later became a co-owner. DJ Lab was the club’s first resident. Andresen and Rune RK, later known as Kölsch, held monthly open-to-close back-to-back resident sets. Andresen began What Happens in 2007; the monthly night paused during the pandemic. In 2012, the basement Red Box was added beneath the upstairs Black Box. Culture Box Chillout is a yearly daytime festival at Østre Anlæg. Culture Box received the Danish DJ Awards’ Best Danish Club title in 2015, its sixth win.
