delamota

delamota is a Chicago event promoter associated with drum and bass. It is the project of DJ Alfonz De La Mota, who began playing at after-hours parties and underground events in Chicago in the early 1990s. He founded the M.I.A. (Murda in America) drum-and-bass collective and established Sky High, a production company, in 1998. Sky High staged multi-room events, drawing crowds of up to 8,500.

De La Mota promoted Midwest rave events with Boogie Tribe between 1998 and 2002. He also founded Sur America Records, which issued 12-inch records by Chicago producers Danny the Wildchild and Out Of Order. His DJ sets cover drum and bass, including jump-up, ragga jungle and deep, minimal jungle; he has also fronted SolJazz, a live drum-and-bass band, and joined Chicago drumstep group High$ociety.

delamota has used The Point, Bourbon On Division and Lans 1438 w Cortland in Chicago, as well as Chicago in Miami. Artists on its event line-ups have included Silent Hype, Toyacoyah, Olly Junglist and Mandidextrous. The promoter has held Chicago club residencies, including the monthly Play drum-and-bass night at Grand Bar, presented by Sky High and M.I.A. M.I.A. also ran the weekly Clash Mondays night in 2008. In June 2025, delamota presented a Chicago drum-and-bass and jungle event as “delamota and Friends”.
