Echo Chamber Sound

Echo Chamber Sound is a sound system, record label and event promoter based in Melbourne, Australia. LQ operates the project, with Subz and Erney D also involved in running the sound. Its music spans jungle, reggae, roots and dub, dancehall and bass music. The label releases music on dubplate, vinyl and digital formats, including limited-run 10-inch dubplates and 12-inch records. LQ is a producer and DJ as well as the label owner and sound-system operator.

LQ began organising jungle and drum & bass events around 2001 in Christchurch, New Zealand, before moving the operation to Melbourne. Echo Chamber began as a dub and reggae event in a Christchurch basement venue; its name referred to the room’s echo. The sound system was built in Wellington in 2008, initially operating as Vital Sounds Hi Fi. In Melbourne, Echo Chamber Sound has held events at QQQ ST. Park, Bar 303, Howler and Rubix Warehouse & Tetris Studios.

The label has released music by Dizz1, Kloke, Midnight Dubs and Shadow Club. Its side label Run It Red releases jungle on vinyl and digitally, and also gives its name to a long-running club event devoted to jungle. In April 2023, Echo Chamber Sound marked a decade in the sound system and label business with an event at Kindred Studios in Melbourne, featuring its sound system, unreleased music and exclusive dubplates.
