Electrikal

Electrikal began in 2009 as a Scottish bass-music collective, operating in Edinburgh and Bristol. Its activities span sound-system hire, event production and nights covering multiple genres. The group first organised free outdoor parties, then shifted to indoor events during winter. Five early members started constructing the sound system around four months after the collective formed, and founder Richard learned sound-system building from Mungo’s Hi Fi after they attended an early Electrikal party in Moffat. In 2011, the system had more than 20 kW of capacity and could serve audiences of up to 3,000.

In Edinburgh, Electrikal has presented events at The Bongo Club and curated shows at venues across the city, including a recurring series at the club. Its “Electrikal Presents” events used the collective’s sound system and DJ equipment. The promoter has also held events at The Underground in Bristol. Resident DJ Refracta has been associated with Edinburgh bookings featuring Mala, Flux Pavilion and Dillinja.

Electrikal introduced its Wall of Bass series in Edinburgh in 2015, with a focus on bass music and sound-system culture. Since Audio Soup Festival began in 2009, Electrikal has contributed production to its dance stage and supplied equipment for other stages in the Scottish Borders. By April 2011, the sound system had been used at more than 60 gigs during the prior year.
