Goldenvoice Presents is an event promoter based in Los Angeles, United States. Goldenvoice started in 1981 as a Southern California promoter booking punk and alternative bands overlooked by larger concert promoters. Founder Gary Tovar first put on shows in Santa Barbara, then brought British punk bands to Southern California and expanded into Los Angeles. Early bookings included the Ramones and Black Flag, as well as other punk acts. The company booked performances in low-rent theatres, warehouses and unconventional spaces across Los Angeles, Orange and Riverside counties.
In 1985, Tovar hired Rick Van Santen and Paul Tollett, assigning Tollett responsibility for daily operations. Tovar handed ownership to Van Santen and Tollett in 1991. Goldenvoice’s Los Angeles bookings included No Doubt, Nirvana, Jane’s Addiction, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Rage Against the Machine, spanning punk, grunge and alternative rock. AEG acquired the company in 2001. It operates the Fonda Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard and the El Rey Theatre on Wilshire Boulevard, and also uses the Shrine Auditorium and The Novo. Goldenvoice Presents has held events at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall.
Goldenvoice created the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, launched in 1999 by Tollett and Van Santen using the promoter’s musician relationships. Goldenvoice is also behind Stagecoach: California’s Country Music Festival. Goldenvoice Presents line-ups have featured Sub Focus and Nia Archives.
