Hootananny Brixton is a live-music venue and event promoter based in Brixton, south London. Opened in September 2007, it was owned and run by Sophia Yates and her brother. The pub had previously traded as the George Canning and the Hobgoblin. It began as a Scottish music venue before developing a reggae programme promoted by Cecil Reuben, whose Jah Revelation Muzik sound system played a regular Thursday night there.
Events have taken place at Hootananny Brixton and Hootananny in London. The venue has separate rooms, including one with a live-music stage, and its bookings have covered reggae, rocksteady, roots, dancehall and jungle. Reuben’s early major shows featured the Congos and Aswad; the programme also hosted Yellowman and Bushman. Reggae Roast held a regular night at the venue, while Movimientos began a residency there in 2009 with a Manu Chao show and later ran a monthly Latin, tropical and global music night. Hootananny Brixton Venue CIC was incorporated as a member-owned, not-for-profit social enterprise on 12 October 2023.
