How It Started

How It Started is a southeast London club night established by DJ and promoter Ollie Hickey. Its programme centers on drum and bass and jungle, with DJs playing records exclusively on vinyl. Events have been held at Peckham Audio, Cu and Avalon Cafe Bermondsey, each in London. Bookings have included Disco Fucks, Hickey, SHAWK and Chinese Daughter. At an Avalon Cafe Bermondsey event in 2023, four DJs played vinyl sets; the night was billed around sharing music and welcoming both DJs and music fans. On October 11, 2024, How It Started held its fourth event at Peckham Audio, with jungle, drum and bass and hardcore.
