Intrigue

Intrigue is a Bristol drum-and-bass promoter operating in the United Kingdom. Ben Soundscape and Joe Wills started the night in 2003 as a fortnightly Wednesday event; after about a year, Soundscape took over its running. Its sound drew on deeper, soulful drum and bass, with Fabio’s Swerve night in London as an influence.

The night moved from midweek parties to weekend events, later settling at Thekla, a venue on a boat in Bristol. Other Bristol venues used include Lost Horizon, The Fox Cafe, The Cider Box and The Croft. Its music policy spans deep, liquid and soulful drum and bass, with funk and soul also in the mix. DJ Die and Goldie have featured among the artists booked for Intrigue events.

Intrigue also runs a record label, first releasing vinyl and later switching to digital. Its annual compilation series began with Intrigue 11 and ran through Intrigue 20; a second room at the 19th-birthday event at Thekla marked the launch of Intrigue 19. The club marked its 23rd birthday in Bristol in February 2026, with Doc Scott headlining.
