La Java is a Paris club and promoter at 105 rue du Faubourg du Temple in the 10th arrondissement, beneath the Galerie du Palais du Commerce in Belleville. It opened there as a dance hall in 1923; the Palais du Commerce has been a listed historic monument since 1994.
Édith Piaf and Django Reinhardt performed at La Java, and its music has moved from bal-musette, accordion and swing to rock and electronic music. Today it holds concerts in the evening and club nights that run past midnight, with electro, house and techno from local artists and international guests, and regular slots for emerging acts.
The room holds up to 450 people as a club or 300 for concerts, with a concert stage and its own sound and lighting. Montee and SKINNYFAT are among the artists on its line-ups.
