Leroy

Leroy promotes events in the Midlands of the United Kingdom, including at Network in Sheffield and 2funky Music Cafe in Leicester. Leroy Small performed as DJ SS and established Formation Records in Leicester with Eidris Hassam; the label began in 1990. With Formation Crew, Leroy organised the Total Kaos events in Leicester, contributing to the local rave scene alongside the label’s record shop, studio and local-radio activities. The 5HQ dance-music shop opened in January 1992, with Formation offices and studio facilities on site. A recording studio was set up above the shop in early 1993.

Formation began with hardcore and later released jungle and drum & bass. Its first record, DJ SS’s The Psycho EP, came out in 1991; early releases also included tracks by Tango and John B. Leroy’s DJ SS work included the jungle track “The Lighter.” In the early 2000s, Leroy started World Of Drum & Bass as a promotions and events company operating internationally. Line-ups at Leroy’s events have featured Hypno (UK), Switch and Digital Pilgrimz.
