Metalheadz

Metalheadz, a London-based drum and bass label and club night, was founded in 1994 by Goldie, Kemistry and Storm. Its debut split 12-inch paired a track by Doc Scott with one by Goldie, and the label joined FFRR Records to issue the first Platinum Breakz compilation in 1996. Goldie started weekly Sunday Sessions at the Blue Note in July 1995, where Photek and Dillinja played. Kemistry and Storm were residents, and the night gave early plays to tracks that helped shape London’s drum-and-bass scene.

After the Blue Note closed in 1998, Metalheadz held London residencies at Dingwalls and the Limelight Club. The Limelight night reopened in 2001 with Goldie and Storm among its DJs. Metalheadz later held a five-night residency at Phonox, with Sunday programming themed around the Blue Note and label parties. Its events have also taken place at Ampere in Antwerp and Sub Club in Glasgow. In 2010, Metalheadz won the first Red Bull Music Academy Culture Clash.
