Planet Wax

Planet Wax is a record shop, dubplate studio and event promoter based in New Cross, South London. The shop grew from the need for a physical base for the 1-800-Dubplate cutting service, with Chris Dexta among the people behind the operation. It works from 318 New Cross Road and has held events there as well as at Boomtown Fair.

Its programme covers house, garage, grime, UK garage, UK funky and electronic music, with regular Open Decks and the in-house Planet Wax Inc series. Artists booked for its events have included Uncle G, Dexta, YOU and Decibella. The promoter’s official launch event took place in 2023; Planet Wax also runs regular radio shows on Rinse FM and Kool FM, and its ON AIR series is available on Mixcloud. Controlled Weirdness has also appeared on event line-ups.
