Society for Arts and Technology (SAT) is a Montreal arts and events organisation whose programme spans digital culture, music and immersive work. Monique Savoie founded it in 1996 as a place for artists and scientists to experiment with technology. It began at Marché Bonsecours, moved to Ste-Catherine Street, then settled at 1201 St-Laurent in 2003. The nonprofit also runs research, training and artist-residency activities, and has been recognised as a public research centre since 2002.
Music events take place across the ground-floor Espace SAT and the upstairs Satosphere, an immersive dome that opened in 2011. The SAT presents concerts in Espace SAT and dance and electronic music in the dome. Its music programme includes Dômesicle and Club SAT, alongside Halloween, New Year’s and Substrat events. Dômesicle brings Montreal collectives and international artists into the Satosphere; the series marked its tenth anniversary in 2026. The 2024–25 season also introduced All Night, a pilot series for extended nighttime programming.
The Satosphere combines a spherical projection surface with eight video projectors and a multichannel loudspeaker system. SAT’s first SAT Fest, held in 2012, presented fulldome films by visual and sound artists from Montreal and abroad. The wider site brings together a concert venue, café, restaurant, research facilities and spaces for immersive work. Maxence Dorais, who had organised events for Montreal’s Homegrown Harvest, became involved in SAT’s programming direction.
In September 2025, SAT hosted the Montreal stop of Making Time’s 25th-anniversary event, with performances across three floors. The programme included DJ Python, Djrum, SHERELLE and Honeydrip.
