Strøm began in 2006 as an annual electronic music festival in Enghaveparken, Copenhagen, and has since grown into a year-round platform presenting concerts and raves in both established venues and less conventional locations. The festival covers electronic music across its genres. Strøm is a non-profit organisation supported by the Danish Arts Foundation, the municipalities of Copenhagen and Frederiksberg, and public and private foundations and partnerships. It became independent on January 1, 2018.
Its year-round programme across Denmark includes concerts, workshops, master classes, artist talks, installations, residencies and music education. Events have taken place in churches, swimming pools, underground cisterns, on street sites and aboard Copenhagen Metro trains, as well as at Fredens Eng. The programming ranges from Danish electronic-music pioneers to UK bass and newer artists, including local and international performers such as Four Tet, Mount Kimbie, DJ Storm and CCL. In 2015, the festival ran for seven days, with 46 events across 32 venues and 109 performing artists.
