SUBDUB

SUBDUB is an event promoter based in Leeds, United Kingdom. Simon Scott and Mark Salford founded it there in 1998, with its first events at the Think Tank, subsequently called The Wire. Iration Steppas has provided the resident sound system since that first event. SUBDUB later transferred its events from Wire to the West Indian Centre after the sound system’s vibrations became an issue.

The promoter has staged events at Beaver Works, The Hifi Club and the West Indian Centre, all in Leeds, where it held a monthly night. Its musical range includes reggae, dub, roots, drum and bass, dancehall, dubstep and jungle. SUBDUB’s nights introduced Mala, Skream, Benga and Hatcha to audiences, and in 2005 it hosted dubstep at the West Indian Centre as the genre spread beyond London. A 2018 event marked the promoter’s 20th birthday with rooms for Deep Medi, Exit Records, Dancehall Science and Dance Mania Records. Its 2024 birthday event in Leeds featured five rooms spanning dub, dubstep and drum and bass.
