The Cause

The Cause is a London event promoter and club founded by Stuart Glen and Eugene Wild. Before establishing a venue, they organised underground parties in warehouses and aboard boats. Its Tottenham club began operating in April 2018 in a former garage for car repairs on Ashley Road. The founders also envisaged space for artists’ studios and work areas.

Initially able to hold 400 people, the Tottenham site later contained seven interior rooms and three outdoor areas. A bespoke Core sound system served the original venue, which held club nights, queer parties and reggae events. The Cause hosted Adonis’s monthly queer party and gatherings organised by Keep Hush, a collective focused on jungle, drum and bass and breaks. Event line-ups included Mantra, Blackeye MC, Chinese Daughter and DJ Flight.

The first venue shut in 2022 amid redevelopment nearby. That year, The Cause began a party series at a temporary Dock Road location, then opened at 60 Dock Road in Silvertown in 2023. The new site has five indoor rooms, with capacities between 60 and 1,000, as well as a large outdoor area. Its sound and lighting setup uses equipment from Sensory Studio, Martin Audio and Noise Control Audio. The Cause has presented Waterworks, a festival spanning house, techno and sound-system music.
