The Midway is an event promoter and arts venue in San Francisco. It opened in 2015 at 900 Marin Street, in San Francisco’s Dogpatch neighbourhood, as a 40,000-square-foot warehouse complex for music, art, technology and food programming. Co-founder and owner Jeff Whitmore had previously opened the San Francisco venues Mighty and Public Works. The Midway’s programme spans house and techno alongside art and performance, with Friction and Machinedrum among artists featured at its events.
Its spaces include the main dance room RiDE, the Terrace, the Gods & Monsters lounge and 888 Garage. A 2024 media kit gave the venue a total capacity of 3,000 and listed a Funktion-One EVO system in RiDE. In 2018, the venue added Envelop, a spatial-audio room developed by Christopher Willits and a team with backgrounds in Dolby and technology. The Midway has hosted weekend parties since its opening.
Named events include Permission to Land, a Sunday patio series presenting house and techno, and the Space Cowboys’ Breakfast of Champions afterparty, held as a New Year’s Day street party in 2016. A 2019 Permission to Land edition was presented with San Francisco label Das Sind Wir.
