Tokio Station is a Bristol promoter established by Blake Robinson and Alex Stroud. It grew from a university live-sound project into small charity events blending jungle and jazz; one fundraiser was held at Elemental on Stokes Croft. Stroud handles its marketing and PR.
Its events pair jungle records played on vinyl with live jazz improvisation, using a mellow, soulful approach to jungle. The promoter has staged events at Liverpool’s Invisible Wind Factory and London’s Hootananny Brixton. Artists on its bills have included Artificial Red, Cheff The Boy, Fez the Kid and Donya B Bass. Its regular SWU FM show explores jazz and jungle, featuring local musicians, DJs and producers. Tokio Station toured Japanese jungle-jazz pioneer Takuya Nakamura across five UK cities and sold out a 1,200-capacity Liverpool venue during a national tour.
