Leipzig is the base for Ulan Bator, whose programme spans jungle, dub, dancehall, reggae, dubstep and drum and bass. Its debut took place at an industrial site in Leipzig-Leutzsch on 25 November 1995. After early parties in vacant industrial buildings, the crew held regular events for three years in an annex of Hall 14 at the Baumwollspinnerei, starting in 1996.
From 2000, Ulan Bator presented events at several Leipzig venues, including Conne Island and Kulturbundhaus. The crew joined the Distillery’s Fridayclub programme in 2002, bringing its Trommel Bass night there first monthly and then every other month. After Elipamanoke opened, Ulan Bator began a regular residency. It also developed 3Takter with Plug Dub and Vibes Ambassadors; the bass, dub and jungle series began at Elipamanoke before relocating to Gießerstraße.
Ulan Bator Records started in 2007 with a ragga-jungle 12-inch from Canadian producer Bombah. The crew established Junglelivity as a jungle label in 2008. In 2018, it helped form the Subardo collective for a tent at Fusion Festival. Subardo Festival launched in Olganitz in 2020 and shifted to Luppa in 2024. Since 2023, Ulan Bator has put on Generations of Bass at Conne Island, with acts including Decibella, Fracture, k.o and Sheba Q.
