Aatma is an event space and art gallery on Faraday Street in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, on the first floor at 14–16 Faraday Street. It occupies a 1920s building formerly used by the rag trade and was previously known as Kraak Gallery, where Louise Woodcock was the first curator. The venue developed around Manchester’s DIY culture and local music scene.
The roughly 1,000-square-foot space has a stage, a large PA system, capacity for about 150 people and two band rehearsal rooms. Its programme spans live music and club nights, with styles including rock, psychedelia, Northern Soul, electro, house, disco, funk, soul and new wave. Regular nights have included Wet Play, Black Bee Soul Club and Pop Curious, while Dreambassuk records and Atomic Promotions have run events there. Artists to play include Jaws, Mint Royale, Menace Beach and Dj Twiz. It is near Stevenson Square.
