Alternity

Alternity functions as a cafe in daylight and an event venue after dark at 333 Bloor St West in Toronto, Canada. The project began in 2009 as a modest shop within Toronto’s Willow Books bookstore. A second site bearing the Alternity name opened in 2016 for community gatherings. In 2024, Alternative Thinking relocated to the venue, bringing both projects under one umbrella. The creators of Alternative Thinking own and operate Alternity.

The two-level lounge features driftwood furnishings, while black lights and earthy themes decorate the dance floor. Crystals and sacred geometric designs are embedded in the walls, and the venue has an alcohol-free elixir bar. Its capacity is about 130. Programming includes gallery exhibitions, workshops, classes, ceremonies, gatherings with local DJs and dance parties. Alternity focuses on psychedelic music and community co-creation, and has hosted bass, dubstep, drum and bass, and half-time events. Promoters have included Alexander Melvin and psy.Lush; artists who have performed there include Creatura, Measure, Living~Stone and Remedy.
