Argekultur Salzburg is an independent cultural centre at Ulrike-Gschwandtner-Straße 5 in Nonntal, Salzburg. In 1981, around 50 initiatives formed ARGE Rainberg to establish a self-managed cultural space at the former Sternbräu site. After plans for Rainberg fell through, the organisation began operating in a former HTL training building in Nonntal in 1987. The current building opened at a new Nonntal location on 6 October 2005.
The venue has a studio with capacity for 99 people and a main hall that seats 220 or accommodates 450 standing. Five music rehearsal rooms are joined by a workshop space, a course and rehearsal room, a seminar room and two production offices. Stadt Salzburg Immobilien GmbH owns the building. Argekultur Salzburg presents and produces contemporary culture, including experimental projects, popular culture and transdisciplinary work, and provides space for cultural groups to meet and develop projects. Its programme includes workshops, courses, seminars and rehearsals. More than 20 regular user groups from different disciplines use the centre, which hosts up to 350 events a year and attracts around 40,000 visitors annually.
In 2016, Argekultur Salzburg launched BASSIVE, a club series focused on electronic music and soundsystem culture, featuring a hand-built STEREOFREEZED soundsystem. Local DJs DJ Diaz and Audi0pille hosted the series, which carried on the Tubeklub club events they had run at Argekultur Salzburg and Jazzit. Artists who have played at the venue include Nartig52, Tactical Delay, Alibi and KAMA. Earlier concerts at the Nonntal site included performances by The Gun Club and Peter Hammill between 1993 and 1999.
