Bar 303 is a live-music venue at 303 High St in Northcote, Melbourne. It opened in 2000, when founders Jack Moynihan and Tom Abud leased a former butcher shop for an arts café and music venue. Before that, the building had been used as a café and coffee-roasting business. Its programme has included live music, film screenings, comedy and art exhibitions, with gigs supporting First Nations and other marginalised musicians and benefit events.
The venue has a front bar with a small stage, a Hammond B3 organ and Leslie rotary speaker, plus a separate band room with a sloping floor, main stage and sound system. Jazz, acoustic music, DJs and electronica feature in its music programme. Promoters include Echo Chamber Sound; regular events have included Kickin’ the B Hammond Sessions and Bohjass jasshuB, alongside jazz and electronica residencies. Klub MUK, the Melbourne Ukulele Kollective’s performance night, has been based there since 2006. The back room has hosted comedy residencies by Ross Noble and Alan Davies.
