Basis Vinschgau Venosta

Basis Vinschgau Venosta occupies two buildings of the former Drusus barracks in Schlanders, South Tyrol, at Kortscherstraße, Bahnhofstraße. Built between 1936 and 1939, the barracks were left by the military in the late 1990s. Project founder Hannes Götsch proposed their reuse for a social innovation hub, and renovation started in 2017. The coworking space opened in October 2019, followed by the venue in summer 2020.

KASINO, the club and event room, uses the barracks’ former cinema for club nights, concerts, theatre and cinema. The 220-square-metre space has an 8.34-metre ceiling, a gallery around the room and a retractable stage, as well as backstage, service and bar areas. It holds 200 people seated or 500 standing. Its sound system uses Alcons Audio components, including array modules, monitors, surround speakers and subwoofers; Lambda Labs bass absorbers are part of the acoustic treatment.

The music programme spans niche and underground culture, local music and international performers. Do It Yourself Tickets has promoted events at the venue, where artists have included Ardimann MC and Azura. The annual Back2Basics event has taken place on December 26 since 2019, featuring local and international musical styles. KASINO Disdancing was the room’s pilot event, held on July 4, 2020, with performances including Floert.exe.
