Brix 581

Brix 581 is a bar and nightclub at 581 5th Street in Oakland’s Jack London district. The building previously housed Breks, followed by Riddim, a dance-music club launched by sound engineer Isaac Anthony. Brix 581 opened at the address in 2015 under Adam Afuvai and his wife, after a dispute over the right to operate there led to the change from Riddim. Anthony had set up Riddim to improve dance-music sound in Oakland.

Brix 581 has a Turbosound sound system and hosts music, food and art events. Its programme has covered electronic music, including jungle, bass and house, with Dystopia Drum & Bass among the promoters to run events there. A monthly Paradigm Shift night is devoted to house music. Artists who have played the venue include DJ Rap, duchess, Velvet Pistol and Keishaboy.
