Brown Alley

Brown Alley is a multi-level venue at 585 Lonsdale Street in Melbourne, forming part of the Colonial Hotel. It has four spaces, including a main room and smaller rooms, and each has its own sound system. The venue’s capacity is about 800. For nightclub use, Brown Alley first hired extra sound and lighting equipment when needed, then installed a d&b audiotechnik A-Series system with substantial subwoofer power.

Its programming has included house, techno, breaks and drum and bass, alongside other styles, with local and international DJs, bands and electronic acts performing there. Twisted Audio has run drum and bass events there, and artists to play include Ed Rush & Optical, IMANU and Etherwood, as well as Robert Hood and Midland.
