Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom is a live music venue on Welton Street in Five Points, Denver. It opened in January 2003 at 2637 Welton Street, in a building previously used as the Casino Cabaret. The building had hosted performers from the 1920s through the 1990s, and Club Pure occupied it before Cervantes’. During the 1930s, the Casino Cabaret presented jazz artists including Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Benny Goodman.
Scott Morrill and Jay Bianchi were the original partners; Bianchi left in 2009. In October 2004, the venue expanded into a neighbouring building, first opened as Quixote’s True Blue and renamed The Other Side in 2009. The two connected rooms can host live music at the same time. The main ballroom has a wraparound balcony and capacity for 1,000; The Other Side holds 450. The complex also includes an outdoor stage. Morrill moved the main room’s soundboard onto the floor and upgraded the sound system in The Other Side.
Its programme ranges across hip-hop, jam bands, electronic music and bluegrass. Drum and bass artists Alix Perez, Monty, Visages and NUEQ have played there. The wider range of performers has included Pretty Lights and Warren Haynes. Cervantes’ marked its 20th anniversary in January 2023.
