Cheese & Grain is an independent live-music, arts, community and education venue at Market Yard in Frome, Somerset. It occupies a market hall constructed in 1874 for agricultural trade and community use, with its name referring to goods once sold there. Frome Town Council took over the building in 1996, refurbished it and opened the venue in 1998. Soundproofing and acoustic work led to a closure in 2001; it reopened the following year, and an independent trust assumed its operation in 2003.
The main hall accommodates around 835 people standing or 500 seated, and by 2006 it had a permanent QSC sound system with flown mid-tops and twin subwoofers. Other spaces include a café-bar, the Bert Jansch recording studio and the smaller sister venue, The Tree House. It has also hosted the Noize festivals. Artists who have performed there include Dynamite MC, Roni Size, Fabio, Grooverider and 4am Kru.
