Common/Undrgrd

Common/Undrgrd is an underground electronic music venue at 731 10 Ave SW in Calgary. It occupies the basement of Commonwealth Bar & Stage, whose downtown building began as a Five Roses flour company shipping facility in 1924. By the early 1980s, the basement housed David’s, a gay health club and bathhouse. The upstairs Warehouse nightclub and a basement bar called the Underground opened in 1984. The Warehouse shut in 2010, and Commonwealth opened at the site in 2011.

Common/Undrgrd launched in 2025 during a major Commonwealth renovation, gaining its own bar. The standing-room venue holds 200 people and has a VOID sound system with TriMotion speakers, Stasys X V2 subwoofers and Cyclone delays. Its musical programming includes house, hip-hop, disco and Afrobeat. Events at the venue have been promoted by Common UNDRGRD, and performers have included John Rolodex and Sara Sukkha. Renovation work enlarged the stage, refreshed the artist green rooms and added an LED lighting system designed by Urban Visuals.
