Débris opened in Daikanyama, Tokyo, on August 18, 2018, established by the crew behind the electronic music festival Zipang. Its address is Daikanyamacho 11-12, Shibuya-ku, in a building with a restaurant and library. A wall conceals the entrance to the music space, whose design draws on the style of a speakeasy. The venue’s interior and sound system were developed with creatives experienced in Japanese outdoor festivals.
DJ events and live performances share the programme with art exhibitions, recitals and film screenings. Techno, house and disco are among the styles played there. Equipment for DJ events includes Pioneer CDJ-3000 players, Technics SL-1200MK7 turntables, a Pioneer DJM-V10 mixer and an ARS Model 9000 mixer, as well as Martin Audio Blackline F8 monitors. Artists who have performed at Débris include MonoGoi, Oshi and SATOSHI.
The adjoining P.B. Restaurant serves Chinese congee and herbal tea, while the library area, called PARADICE BOOKS, holds book exhibits. Débris has hosted events promoted by MonoGoi. Its GALAXY DISCO party began around the venue’s opening, with CMT and Kage as resident DJs.
