Distillery

Distillery began in September 1992, founded by nine techno fans in the cellar of the former Kronen Brewery in Leipzig-Connewitz. The first premises closed in 1995 because of regulatory issues, including a lack of emergency exits. In September that year, the club moved to a former Deutsche Bahn site at Kurt-Eisner-Straße 108a in Leipzig’s Südvorstadt. Its final event there took place on May 29, 2023, and the building was demolished for housing in April 2024.

Distillery reopened on 30 August 2025 in the north wing of Hall 7 at the old Leipzig Exhibition Centre. The new club was approved for 600 guests, while the former venue accommodated between 500 and 600. Its address is Eggebrechtstraße 2, Leipzig, Germany. It is the oldest techno club in the former East German states.

Techno and house have been central to its programme, which has also included drum and bass, other electronic styles, hip-hop and reggae. Boundless Beatz and toBASSgo are among the promoters who have run events there. Performers have included Sven Väth and Jeff Mills. Residents have included Chris Manura and Daniel Stefanik, as well as former resident Matthias Tanzmann. Distillery received the APPLAUS 2022 award for Best Live Music Programme.
