Doornroosje is a concert and club venue at Stationsplein 11 in Nijmegen city centre, Netherlands. It began in 1968 as a youth centre in a farmhouse on St. Jacobslaan, then moved to a former police building on Tweede Walstraat in 1969. In 1970 it settled in the former Sint Anthonisschool, where it operated as Kreatief Aktiviteiten Sentrum. The organisation became Stichting Open Jongeren Centrum Doornroosje in 1985, and by the 1990s it had developed into a professional pop venue.
Its old Groenewoudseweg site closed in July 2014, and the present building opened at Stationsplein that October. The venue has two halls, with capacities of 1,100 and 400, as well as a café stage for around 250. The main hall’s standing capacity includes a balcony. Doornroosje also programmes shows at Merleyn, a separate smaller venue on Hertogstraat.
Music programming shifted towards punk and new wave in the 1970s and 1980s, with electronic and dance music added from the 1980s. Weekly dance night Ultimate Dance Construction started in 1993, mixing styles including house, techno, metal and afrobeat. Planet Rose began in 1995 at the Groenewoudseweg venue and continued at Stationsplein; Dance Night took that name in January 1996. The programme spans pop, rock, hip-hop, techno, metal and jazz, while promoters running events at Doornroosje have included Fiber. Artists who have played there include The Caracal Project, Turno, Culture Shock and Lee Mvtthews. In 2017, Doornroosje initiated Poppunt Gelderland and supported young acts through the MetersMaken project.
