Exchange

Located in Bristol’s Old Market, Exchange is a multi-level space for gigs and club nights. The team that established it had previously run The Croft and worked across record shops, labels and club nights. The venue opened in August 2012 in a former abandoned bar, with a Deadpunk Special as its first event. At launch, it had three floors and room for 500; the main stage now holds 250, and a basement stage opened in 2025 with room for 100.

After 389 people invested in a community-share campaign in October 2018, a community benefit society took control in January 2019. Early music programming ranged across metal, jungle and bashment, while the weekly Tuesday event WBL focused on dubstep. SLIPPIN’ dnb has run events there, and performers have included Mystic State and gyrofield. The main room is equipped with an L-Acoustics A-series PA, KS21i subwoofers and digital mixing desks. In 2025, club booker Nick O’Neill outlined a plan to support underground dance music through the club programme.
