Faith in Strangers is a bar, restaurant and music venue at 17 Ethelbert Crescent in Cliftonville, Margate. The building opened in 1964, replacing the Cliftonville Hotel, which was demolished after a fire in 1952. Starlite occupied the premises in the 1960s and 1970s, and Franks nightclub later operated there until it closed around 2008. Margate friends Richard Randles and Jeremy Duffy founded Faith in Strangers, which opened in 2019 after the former nightclub was renovated.
On the second floor, a sea-view performance room holds 300 standing or 150 seated, with a stage 5.38 metres long and 2.47 metres wide. A custom-built Poseidon Sound System, made for the room, uses four bespoke bass cabinets and an Allen & Heath SQ-5 mixer. The venue also offers daytime coworking under the name Work.Club.
Electronic music, live performances, comedy, talks, screenings and food events all take place there. Norman Jay, Goldie, Leftfield and Joy Orbison are among the artists who have appeared, and the venue has hosted more than 500 events featuring over 300 artists.
