Feierwerk

Feierwerk is a cultural centre with several venues on Hansastraße in west Munich. It started in 1982 as a student project group, holding its first event during Munich’s district weeks. Feierwerk e.V. was established on January 14, 1983, to create a live venue for local and regional artists. In 1985, it ran the Mollhalle as a temporary large venue before moving to Hansa 39, where events began that November. Hansa 39 covers 230 square metres and was the largest auditorium among Feierwerk’s venues. The site also includes Kranhalle, Sunny Red and Orangehouse. Hansa 39, Kranhalle and Sunny Red can be combined for events with a total capacity above 1,000, while Kranhalle has sound and lighting equipment. In 1986, Feierwerk opened the youth centre HansaPalast on Hansastraße. Regular programming at Hansa 39 began in December 1986, and by 1989 the venue hosted concerts, sessions, theatre, cabaret and comedy throughout the week. Blues sessions started at Feierwerk in July 1986 and became public events in January 1988. From 1999 until demolition began in 2003, the underground club L-O-K operated in a disused locomotive hall, presenting underground DJs and electronic live acts such as Autechre and Patrick Pulsinger. Promoters that have staged events at Feierwerk include Eisbach Callin', Break it Down - Munich, FRAKTVRED and Ecstatic Dance Munich. Artists who have played there include Polaster, Tyra and Cosimoto. The annual Sound of Munich Now showcase features emerging artists from Munich; Louis EMP played the closing set of its 2024 edition.
