Flex

Flex is a club and live-music venue at Abgang Augartenbruecke, beside Vienna’s Danube Canal. It began around New Year’s Eve 1989/90 on Arndtstraße, run by people connected to the Aegidigasse squat, and moved in October 1995 into a disused U-Bahn tunnel near Augartenbrücke. Its early programme centred on underground music and hardcore punk; its focus later shifted from rock towards techno and dub, then became closely linked with drum and bass and breakbeats.

Flex Café, with a separate dance floor, opened beside the club entrance in 2007. The venue stages club nights and live performances across electronic styles, including drum and bass, techno and psytrance. D.Kay and Raw.Full organise the Saturday drum-and-bass night Beat It, while The Hive is a monthly neurofunk event. Promoters at Flex have included Gabberz0ne and OAGE RAVE. Acts to have played there include Replic, Interference, Teddy Killerz and Pandora.

A 2022 upgrade changed the sound systems in the main room, at the stage and in the café. The main floor gained Alcons QR24 and QM24 speakers, with a cardioid subwoofer arrangement near the stage; the café has Alcons LR18 line arrays and Lambda subwoofers.
